99BlackSandv6: What makes my car a project?

Postby 99BlackSandv6 » Fri Aug 27, 2010 11:57 am

I just wanted to let you guys know what makes my car a project.
So I took some pics earlier to document some of the problems it has.

For starters:
The grill that I painted back in 2008, has seen better days...

Image

And the driver's door where the emblem was epoxied on...

Image

The cap that covers the screw on the driver's door handle, I broke it off...

Image

I used krylon to try and cover up the scrape on the passenger mirror...

Image

The windshield was already chipped when we got the car in 05, a week ago it finally gave...

Image

I shut the hood on something and put a little dent in the hood, tried to fix it...

Image

But wait there's more, much more...
Trust me, I'm a technician.

Back in Feb. of this year, I had a run in with a sign post at 50+mph.
I was sliding sideways at about a 50˚ angle when I hit it.
Needless to say, the result was not pretty.

The front looked real bad...

Image

Knocked off the turn signal, fog light, washer bottle, inner fender, and 1/3 of the bumper...

Image

The rear was worse than the front...

Image

Image

Image

I was pretty upset at first, but I tried to make the best of the crappy situation.
I drove around with this for about 3 weeks. :)

Image

Now the front bumper has been replaced, and looks like this...

Image

But what about the rear?
Trust me, I'm a technician.

I took to the rear with the biggest slide hammer I could find, and beat that bish into shape!

Image

Image

I still need to paint the front and rear bumper, finish my foglight project, and finish the repair on the rear.
These pictures explain pretty well what makes my car a project. There are a lot of other things that are
in need of TLC, but I'll save that for another time. I've been putting things off because, I have little cash flow,
not much time, and I'm not really sure what to tackle first.

The car runs wonderfully though, I get an easy 20+mpg and it sounds mean. Rides and handles great too.
I love my Solara. :D

i would def. recomend fixing the rear first since the car looks like it has acne back there lol
but all is well my front bumper looks like yours. :)

and my windshield was the same way i got it replaced two weeks ago.

also the way you crashed your car in the front, sounds like the way i crashed mine as well i went sideways and clipped a camry :(

Weird, so it's like we're twins.
The plan has always been to fix the rear first, it stands out in a bad way.
The wreck was pretty crazy. I slid sideways into the sign with the front,
the impact spun the car around, and the rear caught the sign again. Bad news.
Mostly, it's been hard to find the time to fix the damage. I'll get to it though.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

Dayum that's lots of things to do! But I don't understand what happened to your side emblems? How did they turn out like that?!?!

And ToyoSolV6, by curiosity, why did you take off your tinted tails?

Oh yeah, the emblems fell off when I was washing it not long after I got the car.
So someone (not me) decided to use 1Ton epoxy to glue it back on (crooked too).
When I removed the emblems several years later, some of the clear coat came off.

Body work and a repaint would solve 90% of what's wrong. Mechanically it's still very sound,
and I just replaced the valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and wires, did an oil and trans fluid
change, and some odds and ends. It's all labor of love.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

I bought Nando tail lights due to cops being an ass. Tickets every week Is not fun. But, at least where I live cops are just lazy.

Man I didn't know your Lara was in that condition. I always look at your sig and thought it look decent. But, i guess it doesn't do justice since it's a small photograph.

^Me too! :D
I'm gonna keep at it until I can feel comfortable looking at it.
Right now it pains me to see the things wrong, most of which
were as a result of something stupid I did.
I'm not giving up on her anytime soon.
