no, removing your resonator wont cause you to fail inspection. but without a resonator you'll sound like a civic. DONT DO THAT

In general having no resonator will make any exhaust sound like a civic. Chambered mufflers like his fair better but there is no reason to have no resonator besides being to cheap to shell out 20 extra bucks for a cheap one. I would have the muffler put on with 2.25 inch piping to the stock stuff then later when you are ready make a custom catback with a highflow resonator. Read THIS

I am convinced. I will go see my exhaust guy tomorrow. I was thinking of doing a dual with that muffler. Maybe putting back somewhere and splitting two pipes out of it. Will this make it sound different? Im an exhaust noob.

Well, it might be a little more difficult since the Solara doesn't have a dual exhaust, but some Gen2-2.5 owners have done it using Camry parts I think.
As for the dual vs single outlet, it should be less loud, possibly deeper IMO.
