3000k 50w Foglamps - White?!

Postby Mr_Chunkz » Wed Jun 24, 2009 12:41 am

Hey guys
I just added a small mod to my TSX that would otherwise go unposted, but I decided to start a thread showing you what it is.

I bought some 50w HID foglights that are 3000k, or pure yellow.
The wierd part was that I installed these and when you look directly at the bulb, it looks white for some reason, but the light output is incredibly yellow. Whats up with that?
Heres some pics to show what I'm talkin bout.

Image
The light reflected off my white garage door

Image
The foglamps themselves look pretty white!

Image
The passenger side fog, which isnt in direct line of sight, appears yellow again

Image
The light from rear quarter view

Image
The light from bang side on view

Image
The light from straight ahead, slightly above the car. The fog lamps look white!!

And to prove its not my camera taking crappy pics ( even tho my camera does take crappy pics ) here is a walkaround vid of my car.

I guess the effect can be explained that the 50w produces such an intense brightness, it washes out color inside the housing itself....

My bad, totally spaced out and forgot I posted that already...

Either way you got me stumped. I was going to say it's because of a cut-off shield but now I'm not so sure. Looks real good though.

the only explaination is that its because 50w is so bright and the foglamp is so small it intensifies and makes it white when viewing it dead on.....

I'd assume it might have something to do with the fog housings and the bulb itself. Not suggesting you go out and do it, but if you change the brand of the bulb it MIGHT do something to it visually.

Tracy, The 3000k fogs doesn't matter what wattage will look white. The light will be yellow. I've used 3 diff kits and they were all like that..

Ive got a brand called XEbrite
They were an ebay brand but were a lil costly.....
The quality seems to be there. They dont buzz and hum like my other hid on my solara.
