finally got the short shifter install

finally got the short shifter install

The short shifter didn't come with instructions, and I've made it this far by going off old posts here and the guide on twm's site, which says its for a solara/camry, but the pics are from a corolla, and the setup is a bit different.

I've almost got the stock shifter out of place, I got the two bottom clips and the pin on top out. But now there is a 'cap' (circled in red) which is hinged (circled in yellow), and I cant see where to go from here. Can anyone let me know what the next step is? Do I have to remove that hinge somehow? The second pic shows how far I can move the shifter.

Its been a couple of months since I installed mine, but I'll try to help out as best I can.
Yes, that pin circled in Yellow must be removed. I used a small screwdriver (or a punch) and a small hammer to knock it out of place. Its not secured, so once you get it started, it should just slide out.

Good luck!

The most difficult part, for me anyway, was putting the other pin in and locking it with that clip. I had to use a 12mm socket and a very large set of Channel locks to squeeze the lock into place. The whole thing took me about 1.5 hours to do.
Once done though, you'll see it was worth the effort.

Enjoy!

Anybody have this probly with the second pin on the bottom (mounts to the very bottom of the shifter) When I took it off the 'legs' of the pin were tight against the plastic part, and now they are off to the side, kind of bow-legged. Any ideas? The red lines show how they should be.

damnnnn, I got the same exact problem as you. I had that TWM SS laying around my trunk for like 3 months already. I try like every other week to remove that tiny pin, but I just can't do it. Did you finally get it out Fresco bob? How did YOU do it? I tried poking it out with a tiny screwdriver, but that didn't work. I tried a pin and hammer, but that didn't work also. Anyone in SoCal can help me on just this ONE part? Pleaseeee????

ya, I got it started by hammering on one end with a screw driver, then once there was enough sticking out the other end I clamped onto it with a set of channel locks. Once you get a good grip with the channel locks, use a hammer on the channel locks to get the pin out. Once it moves 1\4inch or so get a new grip with the channel locks and hammer away again. Reverse that for putting it back in.

So how did it turn out?

Is it a lot more exciting to drive?

Did it change the personality of the car?

Tell me how much you love it!

Its one of my favorite mods.

Im still deciding how I feel about it. Maybe once I get used to the new stiffness of shifting Ill like it more. Im sure if I went back to a stock one after driving with the short shifter for a while I would appreciate it a lot more.
