Replace Strut Mounts with new Struts?

Replace Strut Mounts with new Struts?

Postby JoKo » Tue Sep 28, 2004 6:59 pm

I tried searching for this but no help. sorry, lol

I got my struts and springs and now im going to get them put on at a local shop for about $140 (Dealership wanted to rob me of $500) so I figure this is the best way to go since I don't know anyone mechanically inclined enough.

I went by the shop today to get the quote and we talked abit. He said the shop, Chaos Performance Tuning (Ocean City, MD), has a 14second 5speed camry with the same 3.0 block and barely any mods. He also asked me if I wanted to replace my strut mounts cuz he knew they were notorious for going bad. I told him i'll find out and get back up with him.

Should I get new strut mounts? Where can I get them? How much $$?

Im leaning towards getting them because I'm that kinda guy, id rather do it at once and get whatevers necessary instead of half-assing it.

Or should I just say fuk it and use the stock ones?

PS. Is there anything I should tell the guy when he puts the struts on? I know I should tell him to watch for the ABS Speed Sensor. But what specifically should I tell him?

Sorry for all the questions, and thanks to whoever was patient enough to read this, lol.

more than likely, the camry the shop was referring to was a gen4 camry. I myself have a gen4 camry. Thanks to extended warranty, i am currently on my 4th set of WORN OUT strut mounts, yeah, pretty soon i will be on my 5th set. Gen4 camrys are notorious for this and unfortunately, my camry has been plagued with this. If your solara doesn't need it..more than likely, it won't for a while IMO. If you said gen 4 camry (97-01), then i'd said change them.

Yea I was going to get the strut mounts replaces on my solara as well but found out the outragious price for them and decided to skip it. Nothing will happen to your car if you don't change the strut mounts, the only thing that is affected is you start to hear a slight rattle from your struts especially if you are on uneven pavement or going over a bump.
