The point of the trunk lock is to prevent the valet or someone like that from gaining access to your trunk. Any interior trunk release levers/buttons (depening on year/model) are useless when the trunk is locked.

You can also lock the back seats from folding down to prevent access from the interior to the trunk.

If you lost the master key, but have the valet, you can try going to a locksmith/hardware store and have them cut you a new key using the master key blank. It is not a different cut for master/valet, its just that thet master key is on a longer blank

Good luck

good to know master key only $5 (..thought it would be more $$ with a built-in anti-theft feature) Toyota 'value' ..

...in college, worked at the ARCO, corner of Camden/S. Bascom.....

(..and what schools are nearby?) Can anyone guess?

All I can say is (given gas prices and resultant ' tudes).....

Open the trunk, then on the back side of the rear seats (ie. looking at them when staring at the trunk, there should be two latch mechanisms in the middle of the rear seat carpet thingie, one for the 60 spit seat and one for the 40 split seat). If memory serves me right the latch on top is in unlock position and on the botton is in lock position.
