225-45-18 tire question

I'm getting 18 x 7.5 wheels and wanted to know if 225/45/18s tires will fit and not rub. The car is not lowered but i'm planning to put some tein springs on in the near future. I know the recommendation is to use 225/40/18 but the 40 profile seems to skinny for me. I like tires with a little more meat, i had 40 profile before and did not like it. Anyone using 225-45-18s out there? any rubbing? any other suggesions?

it shouldn't rub....im thinkin about getting 45 for my next tires as well....

I have 235/45-18 on my Solara with 3" drop (ground control)....rims are 18x7.5 with 38mm offset (I think)...no rub, so dont' worry if you are mounting anything narrower then my spec...(pics are with 19")

Since 225/45 is not the most common size it may cost a little more for the tire. The question of whether it will rub or not also depends on the offset of the wheel; with a 45 offset you would probably be okay, a 35 offset and you may rub.

Another thing to consider when looking for a tire is the tread width, I think tire rack has that information now on their site. Find a 225/40 with a wide tread width and it will look good.

I run 18x7.5 with 225/45/18 tires The offset is 42. It's just perfect. I think 225/45 is better than 225/40. And you still have lots of space to drop your car.

What about a 35 offset in back and 45 in front with a 245/40 tire set up? Or maybe 235/40 with a wide tread width?

what kind of suspension set up do you have stocksolara? you got a nice tucked in look. i'm gonna get 18x7.5 & 45 offset with 225/45/18 because the 235 45 18 are just too expensive. thanks

I just found out mine is 235/40-18 instead of 45 AR..........man, I really didn't spend too much time on my Solara anymore.
