190 Walbro Fuel Pump Installation Question - Help pls!

Postby that1mexguy » Sat Jun 18, 2005 8:07 pm

OK so I just finished installed the new fuel pump. Everything went smooth, except for when I had to put it back into the car. It seems that new filter is a bit bigger so it was touching at the bottom of the tank and my fear is that it wasnt going to get a good seal. Still, I screwed everything back in place and successfully took the car out for a spin. I cheked for leaks and I didnt smell any fumes, so I think it sealed properly, and then I also removed the gas tank cap and felt some pressure released, so that only tells me that the cover for the fuel pump is properly sealed, but my only concern now is that the bottom of the new filter is pretty much at the bottom of the tank squeezed and I wonder if that is good or not or should I even be concerened. Did any of you experienced anything like this?? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Thanks for the overwhelming response, I guess this one I'll have to wait and see if my car dies on me or not, anyway.... on to another question, for those of you that have this pump installed, is it supposed to be louder than the stock pump?

I have the pump, just not installed yet. I've had it for months but I've just been lazy. But yes it is louder than stock.

Did you try shaving the pieces of the housing so the pump can slide all the way in? I remember having that problem before and after shaving it a bit it solved the problem.
