I wouldn't worry about it. I had to replace mine a couple of months ago. There is nothing inside there to get damaged,

JUST A PENNY??? SHEEEEEEEIT I made about $2.68 in change on my first time opening the console!

I needed to tighten my e-brake and do a few more things while I had the central console gutted open, but I guess the previous owner decided to use the little drawer below the auto climate control to hold change.

When I usually tried to open it, it took a lot of force to get it open and made a horrible noise caused by 2 dimes trapped behind the spring. However, there were coins E V E R Y W H E R E (which made me wonder what was causing a metallic grinding noise when I pulled to a stop), but alas, no brake/transmission/alarm interference, so a penny is just chump change (no pun intended).
