Rotors????

Rotors????

Postby SleeperSolara » Thu Apr 06, 2006 7:40 am

Well i'm very close finally to get much need rotors.
There is a guy i know here on my local forums that can get me some Brembo cross-drilled rotors for a good price, but i was wonderin' if i should replace all 4 at teh same time or can i just replace the front one and then the rear ones when i have enough money????
I was thinkin' of replacein' the front ones first since they take the most out of stoppin' the car and then the rear ones when i have more money.
Is that a bad idea of ok idea.
Thanks.

it all depends on a lot of stuff:
1 when was the last time the rears were resurfaced/machined/shaved
2 are the rears warped currently
3 are you going cross drilled for the show? (or ur plans entail replacing brake lines as well - meaning your going for the 'go' more than the show??)

If you can resurface the current ones, i think thats the cheapest alternative. The way i see it, our cars pretty much talk to us when the rotors need replacment (either a shake while braking..or grounding noice..meaning new rotortime). I'd wait if there nothing wrong with the rears.

Well the front i know are warped really bad. :(
Even when i brake at like 30 or 40 mph the steerin wheel shakes like a mofo. :-?
And i think the rear squeak but all 4 pads are brand new though.
So i think it's the rotors for the rear, but how can you tell if the rear rotors are warped???

^^ then i'd suggest just machining rears and replace pads/rotors in the front. Don't know about where you live in houston its like 11bucks at pepboys per rotor . Doesn't matter front or back; when you give it to them they comment back the next day. then they let you know if they machined it or if it was warped pretty bad.

Most likely they're all warped, machining can take that out assuming that there is enough material to get them strait.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

I would say, save your money and replace the rotors when you need to. If the fronts are warped, and haven't been resurfaced before, it should be able to be resurfaced and fixed.

Squeaky pads does NOT mean your pads or rotors need to be replaced. Especially with aftermarket pads, often times squeaking is normal.

Replacing your stock rotors with drilled/slotted rotors will NOT improve your brake performance. Which is why I would not go out spending my money on replacing them until they need to be replaced.

I have brembo's, drilled, all around and they are great. I wouldn't suggest the axxis pads though, they create alot of dust.

You can probably resurface your rotors. Blanks are usually all you need, but at most slotted. Slotted will give you that look, without sacrificing much surface area.

I also have the brembo crossdrilled rotors, the pads are EBC 6000 (green-P/N DP6874) series and I'm very satisfied with this combination.
