Which place to get rotors....

Which place to get rotors....

Postby SleeperSolara » Fri Jun 02, 2006 4:28 pm

Was plannin' on gettin' some new rotors.
There is this place:
http://www.performancerotors.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/501?osCsid=9afea813f77b86c06d265a30007b3519
^^^^
And they cross-drilled and slot the Brembo blanks they get wit a CNC machine.

^^^^
They carry Power Slot.

^^^^
Normal place to get rotors.

Which company is better Brembo or Power Slot.
Was wantin' feedback on the cross-drilled rotors that some people have.
I know that slotted will cut the pad each time you brake.
So need feedback on the people who own cross-drilled rotors, not cross-drilled and slotted.
Thanks.

I don't have these yet. I just saw them and decided to put them on my wish list.
I did, however, get a quote on frozen cross drilled. It was quite a number of months ago, but the ballpark is $850 for all four rotors. Good luck.

Get them from Tire Rack. Either Brembo blanks, or at MOST slotted.

Do you think having cross-drilled rotors increases your stopping power? Decreasing surface area = DECREASING braking potential. So you are actually probably taking longer to stop than a stock/blank setup.

"back the f up"

Wow, someones a little defensive here...

I never said you're a dumb f*** for buying them, so calm down. You said it gave you great stopping power, I said decreased surface area equates to decreased stopping power.

Learn to take a little criticism. Everyones got their own opinions, tastes and prefrences. But facts will remain facts. If you're happy with them, fine, no one said be angry about it.

I was mearly trying to pass on information and knowledge. Your statement that it gave you great stopping power, I found to be misleading. It makes it sound that cross-drilled rotors will make you stop faster. This is false. No rotor will make you stop faster. A more aggressive pad material, wil.

The main reason for changing rotors, is to use a stronger rotors to accomidate more aggressive pads. Harsh pads on a soft rotor will eat and warp a rotor very quickly. A stronger rotor will be able to withstand a stronger pad. Furthermore, slots and cross-drills are added to rotors for cooling purposes. When the brake system gets hot, a layer of gas can form between the pad and the rotor, thus creating "fade" which is a loss in brake performance. This can happen after several laps at the track, or as quickly as one hard slam on the brakes from 60mph. A slotted rotor is more than enough to dispell these gases and reduce brake fade. 99% of cars will never need anything beyond slotted rotors.

There are pros and cons with both slotted and cross-drilled rotors. Slotted rotors are good because they are strong just like a solid rotor, because they are still solid. They will get the job done by dispelling hot brake gases. The downside is they eat your pads up a lot faster because its like a cheese grater swiping across your pads everytime you brake.

Cross-drilled are good because they are not as hard on your pads cuz they aren't slicing them. They provide very good cooling, beyond what anyone really even needs. The downside is they make the rotor very weak and more prone to cracking and warping. Also reduce surface area of the rotors by usually 25-35%.

With all that said. I really only recommend blanks for most people. For those who track occasionally, you may see some benefit from slotted rotors. Other than that, for cross-drilled, I think the cons outweigh the pros too much. The reduces surface area is what gets me the most. Why would you upgrade your brake system, then take 35% of its surface area away, IMO thats just counter productive..

Cross-drilled and slotted together, is just plain overkill.
