Experiemented with engine enamel. Painted it blue originially with clearcoat on top but didnt like it so i decided to go to aluminum metallic with clear coat. Painted just the valve cover and battery tie down for starters
also got a red top batt. Just a question tho: How do you other gen1 guys secure your redtop down? I got the tie down across but that rod that pushes into the back between the batt and airbox wont stay. The bolt only goes down so much and its about 4mm shy of touching the batt. Its secured to some extent but not as much as I want it to be.

Anyway heres 2 pix of my engine bay

The paint looks nice. For the battery, my Optima came with a plastic tray that went under the battery to lift it up to stock battery height. I'm guessing yours didn't come with one.

actually it came with a lid and group 74 adapters
i snapped the lid to the underside and the battery tie down and rod fit okay but the positive terminal couldnt stretch. As it is the battery sits crooked in there to let the positive terminal reach.
i went to pep boys and they said they could sever the terminal and extend the cables but that seems risky/expensive. What if they screw up my positive terminal for good, you know?
I tried reverse mounting the battery but it still wouldnt reach and im pretty sure reverse polarity is a horrible idea ( didnt try it, dont think i should ).

my choices are a bit limited :(

You know Optima made a red top Group D35 that is a direct bolt on for the Solara. You need the tray to raise it up and its bolts in like stock. Thats what I have..

-_- I was told to get the 34R battery
either way its bought now and my old core was returned so Im probably gonna have to extend the terminals and find a way to make it fit.
