not sure if anyone has tried this but recently i installed the TRD muffler and i just didnt have the sound i expected.

then i noticed i have a resonator (aka mini muffler) half way up the piping...

so has anyone tried to take it out and replace it with straight piping?
and how would i do that? do i need to cut?

If you want to be resonatorless,, you need to have a muffler shop cut it off and weld a new pipe, it is not unboltable.

I had a friend whom had a resonatorless TRD Muffer on a gen1 though and my muffler right now is resoantorless.

No, it's a resonator (or Submuffler in Toyota terms).

I'll work on a DIY for it before mid-August. Yes, you can cut out the resonator and replace it with a straight pipe. But the muffler shop is going to have to fabricate two exhaust support rods because the originals are welded to the submuffler. See the photo below.

I'll have to pull the drawing, but I believe the tube diameter of the pipe is 54mm. ( 2 1/8 ) This is a tube diamter that muffler shops almost never carry. (No bend tools for it.) So use 2 1/4" and reduce the ends to 55mm ID.

I believe the manufacturers of the kits give you really good instructions and support (from what I've heard from my friend in Canada anyway).

You have two different styles to choose from - bolt-on and weld-on. There are a few kit manufacturers out there. I'm definitely considering it myself down the line.

Does this affect CARB smog test issues? What does removing it do for sound/performance?

Could someone post a tut for how to paint the brake calipers? I just don't know if it's harder than applying paint (probably is).
