Automatic door locking??

Automatic door locking??

Postby Jetfixer » Fri Apr 04, 2003 8:36 am

I just bought a 99 slev6 and was wondering if there is a way to set the doors to lock automatically? I have a Dodge Intrepid that locks the doors at around 13 mph, and a FOrd Explorer that locks them when you release the brake pedal. I work in an unsavory part of town and would like the doors to lock automatically. Any help would br greatly appreciated. Also, I just posted that I have the procedure to program the remotes if anyone needs it.

There is no such feature for any Toyota. Although if you do have the factory Toyota RS3000 VIP or RS3200 VIP alarm installed on your car, there is a feature that automatically unlocks your doors when you remove the keys from the ignition. There are also aftermarket alarms that can be programmed to lock the doors as soon as you put the key in the igntion. Other than that, you will have to do it manually by pressing the power door lock switch. Honestly, that's no big deal. You just have to train yourself to do so.

Land Cruisers from 2000 up and the new 4Runners can be programmed to do it. but not Solaras.

The Gen5 will lock the door as soon as you shift away from P.

Really Flip? When I bought my Solara, I got the Camry 2002 manual instead of the Solara one so I got to read it. There was an instruction on how to activate the auto-lock feature on the Camry. I even posted that instruction around here. Maybe it was something new with the newer designs. Kinda like the remote trunk release and separate hi beam and low beam headlights that 02-03 Solaras have.

I forgot to add that it automatically locks as soon as you turn the ignition to ON position. Maybe so on the newer designs..but Solara never had a power remote trunk release to my knowledge. Just a regular cable actuated floor release. The Gen5 Camry does though.

do you mean a remote (key fob) trunk release? my '02 has the trunk release button just below the "unlock" button. i think its just on 02 and up models. also, my cable release is in the glove box, not on the floor by the drivers seat. pain in the butt, but it makes sense for valet mode purposes.

yeah, 02 and up has the trunk release on the remote

youre trunk release is in the golvebox?
i didnt think solaras (or any toyota) had that...
(if you didnt want a valet getting into your trunk, turn the key to the left to lock the trunk, and then give them the valet key)

You should have gotten a gray head key when you bought the car. Its a valet key. It'll only open the doors and start the car, won't open the trunk.

There was a huge debate on whether auto door locks should even be kept because older people were having trouble unlocking the doors, especially on the cars with the locks that actually go into the doors like on the fords. Personally I find it very easy to lock it myself

First of all, the GRAY "subkey" is only available on those models with the immobilizer system built into the key aka the fatter key with the chip. If you have the non immobilizer version, you should have a regular rounded key with no black plastic on it like the master key.
