Flamethrower exhaust

Flamethrower exhaust

Postby Fastlane051 » Sat Feb 10, 2007 11:31 pm

Im thinking about putting a flamethrower spark plug on the end of my tail pipe...but does anyone know what makes the flame get bigger? Does it get bigger as more exhaust comes out? And how hard is it to install....

Why would you want flames coming out of your tailpipe?

Just super-tune the engine and it'll start doing the same thing

I just don't think you should do that to a Solara, but it's your car. Something like that makes me think of a drag racer, and a Solara isn't a drag racer.

Read, it burns the unburnt fuel coming through the exhaust.... just make sure you face it toward your seat..... LOL

yeah... I heard about this too... I got a buddy with a SR20DET powered S13... and he claims he has flames occasionally shoot out his exhaust. Think he's running no cat also...

so think this will happen with a 1MZ-FE with no cat and straight pipe all the way out? (no cat, no resonator, and high-flow muffler)

The reason it happens is because on high performance/highly modified motors the combustion that's supposed to take place in the cylinder happens to escape the cylinder and the combustion takes place in the exhaust instead, leading to flames out the exhaust.

For a 1MZ to do it, you need a lot more than what you mentioned to be able to get the same result.

so basically... TRD supercharger... higher boost and higher fuel flow? along with race headers and straight y-pipe?

With really aggressive tuning... maybe? I don't know, I just see it happening, dunno anything else beyond what I wrote

I've seen these spark plug exhaust tip flamethrowers being sold in a few small auto parts stores. They come with the brackets, wires, and the little momentary switch. I've seen it installed on a friend's STI (funny because his downpiped, uncatted STI can shoot flames as is) The kit shoots flames that reach a little over a full car length behind him. I don't know why you want it for your Solara but he uses it to scorch people's bumpers when they are too close.
