Solara getting tired at 120K miles?

My 99 SLE does not have the zip it used to at 50K miles. I changed the plugs and wires and timing belt at 100K miles as routine maintenance, however it just does not seem to get up and go like it used to. I know everyone on here says that at 100K the Solara is just getting broken in. Is there any minor maintenance that I can do to get some zip back? I saw the DIY on cleaning throttle body and I will give that a try, but any other suggestions?

-change your tranny fluid to synthetic if auto.
-run some fuel injector cleaner
-Change oil to Full synthetic 5w-20 (thats what I use)
-inflate tires to 34psi or recomended
-check air filter
-make sure spark plugs are NOT bosch platinum +4 (had them and they prolly robbed me some hp)
-Use iridium sparkplugs
-Use fuel injector cleaner again
-change fuel filter

That should do the trick... all except the iridium plugs. They are good, but not necessary. I prefer the NGKs myself.

That should do the trick... all except the iridium plugs. They are good, but not necessary. I prefer the NGKs myself.

im running NGK iridium plugs Its what all the new motors are running now, so it cant be that bad.

You sure you use 5w-20? It should be 5w-30. For the guys that run in the real hot weather, you can switch to 10w-30 for the summer months.

Also, you should be careful with synthetic oil on cars over 75k miles. A car that never burned regular oil, may burn syn oil.

yeah, i run 5w-20. Now I use the same oil as my honda. Theres no harm since here in Cali, we've been getting freezing weather. I know well enough to use a thicker grade during the summer.

True on the synthetic burning. Its so fine that it will uncover any weak seals you may have. I've been using full synthetic since 60k and now I'm at 178k. Still no problems, but then again your car may be different.

I just replaced my belt tensioner and i'm at 120k now.. did wonders... smoother pickup.. now i have to do spark plugs n fuel filter.. but get that tensior replaced..

True all Honda high output motors run them..


Clean your TB run seafoam through the manifold and gas tank and take care of the other things mentioned like tranny flush and fill.

Mine still runs like a raped ape with 150K so you should be good for a bit.
