2001 Solara AC Question

2001 Solara AC Question

Postby SnivesAtGT » Wed Mar 14, 2007 5:33 am

I have a 2001 Solara I4 - with the non-digital AC system in it.

I had a question about the front window defrost. When I turn it on defrost, it goes to outside air - and when I turn it back to a non-defrost setting - it DOES NOT go back to inside air.

All my other Toyotas have in the past. When I questioned the dealer about it - they said it's made that way.

Can somebody w/ the four cylinder model and the non-digital display validate this for me? I have the feeling the service person didn't know what he was talking about - and didn't want to fix it since it's under a 100K mile warranty.

Thanks,
Ben

I just found it odd that they automatically turn off inside air for defrost, but don't go back.

The SLEs and My Tundra (that has the same exact non-digital controls as the solara) both do it.

Simply put - if it's broken - I would want it fixed before the 100K mile warranty is out....that's all.

Thanks for checking for me,
Ben

It's probably just a programming flaw; the auto climate IS already pretty complicated as it is, like how you can't just hit "off" to turn off the defroster either. Either way, it switches it to Fresh Air, purportedly because it defrosts faster or something.

Simply put, its not broken...thats the way it was designed. Its the same case with my ES, Camry and my 01 4 cyl solara. I agree with you, the system should 'remember' your settings weather the air-circulate was off or open, but the system doesn't.

Cool - thanks for all the re-issuances.

Just a frame of reference. My 05 Tundra switches back and forth correctly - so they are fixing the issue....not that it's a big issue or anything. It just annoyed my wife and you know how that goes.

Thanks,
Ben
