Suspension on 100K + mile Solara

Postby kaarona1 » Fri Mar 16, 2007 7:02 am

My 99 SLE has 120K miles and I have recently changed the rear struts and strut mounts. (Still knocking over bumps). Then I just replaced the sway bar bushing (Surprise, surprise.. Still knocking over bumps). The only thing that is left is the control arm bushings. My question is... how many people with high mileage Solaras have had to replace the rear control arm bushings and did it help?

This suspension is killing me, and my wallet. I have not lowered the car (although I should have since I replaced all struts and mounts). But I just have the Monroe Sensa-trak struts and all new mounts and new RSB bushings! I think I just need to drive this car off a bridge and call my insurance agent! oops!

I have the Sensa-Trac on front with no noises. This is a pain! I need a IS250. I live in South Bend, IN (Go Irish!)

then the rear is screwed.. my rear knocks like a jerk and front squeaks go get them replaced if they are under warranty at the store you got them from.. your top hat might be to loose here do this and tell me if it works.. pull the back apart i think you still might have your apart since you had this problem for a long time.. Get the right socket and tighten the top hat nut.. (the big nut in the middle off the hat ) tighten as hard as you can use a breaker bar if needed . make sure the strut poll dosnt spin which it shouldn't i did this and the knocking went away

Thanks for the help man! Specs say tighten to like 36 lbs. I have it to like 70 and it still knocks. I think it will never go away!

So you dont think it has anything to do with the control arm bushings?

I just ordered new control arm bushing because mine are spent; the dealership told me they were worn earlier this week. I just need the rear one.

When I have the wheels turned hard, when theres a bump, or when I'm driving fast like on the highway theres a squeaking noise, I'd imagine from the metal control arm grinding on the frame with no bushing in between.

I dont know if this is what your noise is; control arm bushing is more of a squeaking though.
