I am debating between replacing my blown tokicos with new tokicos or trd/blistein. Please respond here to say whether you have blown your struts or not, and if so, with what springs, after how many miles and under what condition. Thanks!

It doesn't matter what brand you use. Struts are a wear and tear part. Overtime they are going to go out. Tokico's warranty sucks.. I sent mine back a long time ago and didn't get another set for 3 months. I ended up just buying 2 new rear ones then sold the ones they sent back to me later.

I have the TRD rears but they are just stiffer then tokico. I dont have them installed since my tokicos are still ok. The life of them depends on how you drive and the weight you normally carry...

Either set you go with over time they will give you the same problem is you carry allot of weight.

well how come stock suspension seems to last 100k without issues. my tokicos blew out in 2.5 years, and that too after one road trip!

p.s.
how can i know whether just the rears are blown, or all 4? do the front ones usually not go out?

Lifetime Limited Warranty:
http://www.hitachi-hap-la.com/TokicoGas ... index.html

Warranty procedures:
http://proamauto.com/tokico7.htm

I'm pretty sure this is non-transferable, so this would only work if you were the original purchaser, and have an invoice. I remember trying to call them and told me I couldn't claim it since I bought them used.

And as an aside...since when was Tokico owned by Hitachi? Is this a new thing?

Don't forget that you are on LOWERING SPRINGS. The struts are more compressed and gives less travel.

Stock Springs and Struts don't have as much stress since they are not compressed as much.

Try putting lowering springs on stock struts and see how long they will last. Thats why Tokico and TRD came out with performance struts for lowered cars.

well arent the aftermarket struts meant to work with the aftermarket springs? i would think so especially with the blistein/eibach combo, since they are 'trd'. has anyone had issues on this combo?

Yes they are... But they will not last forever. Eventually they will wear out and still have to replace them... My tokico's wore out after about 30k miles due to the weight I had in my trunk. On my second set of rears I have about 35 to 40k miles and the rear already seem soft like they are going out...

I lowered my car at 10k miles and I am at around 80k right now...

But if you are worried about it blowing just stick with tokico since they have a lifetime warranty. Just save your receipts and be prepared to wait for them to send you new ones.

TRD's are discontinued so if you blow them its going to be harder to find replacememnts in the future.

I haven't needed to replace the fronts as they are holding up fine..
I knew mine were blown only because I have too much travel ont he struts in the rear. I also was able to push the rear of the car down very easy with the trunk open. Just push down and if the suspension moves very easy they are blown.

It they are still good you shouldn't be able to push it very much.
