Manual Transmission Remote Start

Manual Transmission Remote Start

Postby kubi » Thu Jun 12, 2003 6:46 am

I've seen a couple on ebay that say they are built for use with a manual transmission, but after reading what they were it was really just something pretty dumb. Is it "safe" to put a remote start on a manual transmission assuming you always park it in neutral? That has always been my understanding, however I could be wrong. Are there any higher quality alarms that are built for use with a manual transmission?

Remote starts are fine, but the Solara has a double starter mechanism (or something like that), where you have to bypass two separate safegaurds in order for a remote start to work. Good luck.

Both of the places I've went to said they will not install a remote start on a manual transmission.... So how are they "fine?"

It is illegal to install remote start on a manual so you won't find many stores who want to do it. Remote starts are getting better, I've seen ones that will detect motion and cut off the engine if it starts to move.

Just a word of warning, you may put it in neutral all the time, but if someone else drives your car, they won't know that. My uncle drove my cousins car and left it in gear. When my cousin remote started it, it started to roll and he ended up hitting something

but the technicians who don't know your lifestyle aren't going to risk installing a remote start on your manual tranny. it's all about liability. say one day, you may take your car in for mechanical work at a shop and the workers there "accidentally" start it.

that may never happen, you could just hold on to your remote and just put the car in the shop, however, there's still that 1% chance that it could happen.

installing remote start on a manual tranny is something you'd have to do on the side. find someone who is willing to install it for you.
