Hey all,
I just got a 1999 Toyota Solara V6 5 Speed Red. Coming across this site/form I have gotten alot of idea's on what I can do with my new baby :D I will try and not be tooo newbie-ish lol but I hope everyone can welcome me into the Solara Family and guide me into making a sweet/sexy/sleek Solara :D look forward to hearing from you all and ill try n take a pic of my new baby. :D

The first mod that i think i will do is:
Custom Grill - I'm thinkin Chrome with blacked out center and re-chrome the toyota sysm?

Headlamps(JDM Diamond Black) / or (Retor Fit HID) - I know the first choice is the cheaper route :P and should I get black or chrome backing cause I've been told that the black ones have less reflection and have a funny pattern?? :S

18" Rims (Black) - What color do you think would best suit my red baby?

I welcome any and everyones suggestions :D

Welcome :D

The grille sounds interesting, it's different from what others have been doing, but should look good. I left the chrome on mine and painted the center the same as my car, black sand pearl. As you can see, I'm going for the black and chrome look.
If you can save for the HID retrofit, it's so worth it. I think I was the first to get the black housing headlights and the light output sucks. When I put HID's in there it wasn't that bad, but nothing compared to my retrofitted HID projectors.
I think you should opt for 19" rims, rather than 18", it looks so much better. Several people here admitted that when they got 18's. I like black rims, but to me that would depend on what else will be black around the car. If you chrome the grille, maybe look at chrome. Or, you can do what I did and get black with a chrome lip.

G/L and happy modding!

Welcome to Solaraguy! First off you need to get a TRD Rear Sway Bar, then do all that other stuff.

welcome to sg. i'm also a red 1999 v6 (though i'm auto, and an sle). in my opinion, i like the blacked out rim's (w/ a polished lip). especially if you have dark tint, it just matches the car so well. check out the pics and vid's section, there should be some pics of people various rim setups.

if those are your first mods, then i suspect that you are going to focus on style before substance/performance. and would second astro's suggestion of getting 19s instead of 18s.

as for first performance modifications, suspension mods are the priority (TRD RSB). also, if you plan on lowering your ride, figure out what strut/spring setup you want before getting the rims, since it would suck to get baller rims, and find that they wont work with the suspension setup you want.

Thank You for all your suggestions guys they are all great and have gave me a lot to think about lol. About the TRD Rear Sway Bar, will this upgrade make that much of a difference? Since I am also just getting this car I would like to wait a little bit before i begin doing work/mods under the hood.

YES!!! It makes a huge difference in stiffness and less body roll around turns. Definitely a worthwhile mod.

welcome and yes, it will make a big difference in your handling. I definitely recommend it, particularly if you plan to drop it and get some aftermarket wheels. I also recommend you get a TRD kit for it man, it compliments the car like nothing else.
