Cheap Faux Alarm Blinking Red Light

Cheap Faux Alarm Blinking Red Light

Postby noodlerooney » Tue Feb 07, 2006 7:53 am

I've installed this in many cars, red blinking light (security) that comes on when key is off and goes off when key is on, looks like a security light. Mount the LED where it can easily be seen from the outside of car, from the driver's side window.

B+ ---------> 470 ohm ----------> blinking red LED ----------> B+
constant_____.5 watt resistor_____RS #276-036, 5mm________w/KOEO

B+ constant: constant power = brakelights.
B+ w/KOEO: power when key on engine on.

You can by a 5 pack of the 5mm holders to mount the led on the dash, goes between the bulb and dash. Looks very realistic, cheap mod, < $5 total. Use a 1/4 inch drillbit to drill hole.

I too have it in my gauge cluster, I just would like one on each door panel near the window for added protection. Found this and thought it seemed like a cool little way to make me feel better about my car.

i bought my hyper-bright led online and gave up and had it installed by local alarm guy for 20 bucks in 15 min...just take it to be done right w/o you blowing afuse or cutting/touching the wrong wires. :P

I dislike to read "cheap" and "Solara" in the same sentence :P :lol:

You can do one with a 5mm LED, a relay, 470 Ohms 1/4W. It will stop to light when you turn the key. Or buy one already made for some bucks.
