5.5 psi pulley for s/c

i got this 5.5 psi pulley and i need to install it. anyone know of any place in so cal or if there is a way to do it myself and if so how?

You can do it yourself, you will need to get a puller to remove the stock pulley. I did mine in like 1/2 hour.

what is a puller..sorry if that is a dumb question. cause i tried unscrwing it and it just keeps turning.

dun worry about it, i did the same thing... (but only b/c happy aggies said he did this like that) so you need to get a puller. go to sears and you'll find it, if not, ask one of the salesmen there to help you.

It'll keep spinning unless you get an impact wrench. You can do it without a puller, but I'd reccomend one.

Undo the belt
Take impact gun and undo the bolt on the end of the pulley
use the puller to remove it or tap it with a mallet
swap the pulleys

It's probably a good idea to get a new belt. The newer superchargers have a dynamic belt tensioner, which is supposed to keep the belt tight automatically, versus the older version, which had a tensioner that could be adjusted. I have the newer version, and when I switched to a 5.5 lb pulley, I got some squealing after a few months. I just went to a 7 lb pulley, and had a new, smaller belt installed, as well.

The shop that installed my new cylinder heads and 7 psi pulley put in the new belt. I didn't bother to ask where they got it from. On my receipt for the work, it says Serpentine belt, but I don't know if that's the brand name or not. I can probably find out, if you're really interested. Let me know.

If it's not tpo mch trouble could you find out what the brand is and how much is costed you?

serpentine is a type of belt. rather than having individual belts for the a/c, power steering, etc.; we have a serpentine which is one big belt connecting all the accessories.

NOTE: this is different from the timing belt.

Just about any auto parts store should be able to help you out if you provide them with teh necessary info;

"Some belts are marked in standard, metric, or both. Belt numbers, the ones printed on the belt itself, indicate the length and rib count. e.g. 4PK900 means 4 rib, 900mm. 345K4 means 34.5", 4 rib. I should mention that the counter clerk at the parts store will be confused. Don't worry. Just be nice and ask to go to the racks! If those guys can't pull the part number off the computer, they go into limp mode."

The original SC belt was a 2250mm 6 rib belt or 6PK2250

The brand that he used is called Dayco Polycog. Apparently it is the brand that is used for the stock belt but has some additional cross ribs for better traction. It cost me about $45. I don't know the exact part number or the exact length, but I'm sure that a parts store could help you.

so did we clarify if ToyCam had suggested the correct belt for smaller pulleys? i have a 2.7 pulley i'm gonna swap soon. 6PK2250 is the original, so what is the smaller belt size number? 6PK...?

U dont need a puller, just use this and the wrench. :wink:
