what kind of intake

There is no chip available and chances are there never will be. Not only is it very hard to reprogram toyotas ECU, but toyota uses a very efficient system that there is no need to. Timing advance and retard is automatic.

A standalone fuel system provides control in the places where the stock ECU can not automatically compensate. You can control the A/F ratio more effectively with a S-AFC or Split second controller.

I bought a Weapon-R intake (before I read this thread, hope I dont have any of those problems :x), but I was just wondering if there were any conflicts with the ECU, and what should I do about it. I've heard of people running too lean with an aftermarket intake because of their stock ECU and having to get it reprogrammed or get a replacement. Is this at all true of the Solara? Also in the defense of the Weapon-R intake, it looks freakin awesome .

Master_Flash, you don't need to reprogram the ecu (if you could) on the Camry. You'll be fine. It may run a little rough while it adjusts. I installed an RMM Intake, never reset the ECU and when I started it, it ran a little rough but it didn't take long until it smoothed out.

You're correct, the Weapon-R is flashy. Too bad they didn't put as much effort into the quality. Injen looks good and is much better quality. I chose RMM even though it isn't all that great looking, it seemed like the best quality application. -JoeB

You talking about the filter thing, or is there something more sinister going on? I have had mine in for like 35,000 miles without any troubles. Maybe these people didn't follow their maintenance schedule, which is pretty intensive versus a K&N style filter?

As to dyno numbers, I think we all established a while back that intakes are more or less cosmetic noisemakers anyway.

My WR intake didn't come with any maintainance info or supplies, what do you recommend?

This is the kit I have. If you hunt around you might find it a little bit cheaper :)
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

Ingen Baby!

Postby SolaraT » Fri Oct 17, 2003 4:39 pm

Thanks to Kroked_Solara! I just purchased one from aventon.com!!! Lowest price out there! I was looking all over for a lower priced good quality intake and I see that Ingen is top of the game when it comes to quality. I had a weapon r hyper on my 95 camry and it sounded realy good but I ended up reselling it to someone else because I sold my car. Not to many miles driven on it so I can't realy tell you long term effects. I did not like its shape. I am sure the new dragon should be better. Non the less thanks for referring me to that site! Pics comming up ASAP! What is the deal with those $25.00 kits on e-bay? How can someone make money off of that! That price was so scary that I would never think of putting something that cheep on my ride!
