yep you would definitely need to get the v6 transmission

solarat wrote:cool! I did not realize your hp readings were at the wheel. Wow then that’s better. I know if I invest the amount of money you spent over to Ripp they can give 250 @ wheels w 9psi. But I am not here to talk about them. Your set up is awesome! You raised the bar for our engine and went beyond limits. You inspire and you ROCK!

thanks for the credit, but i think you need to learn more about force induction, otherwise you will end up like me spend more money than expect.

Please notice from their website they said get following power on the FLYWHEEL (they say drivewheel) (different from power on the Wheel, which power are lost from transfering from flywheel to actually wheel due to transmission and other mechanical stuffs)
227.3HP 98 Camry 5SPD 9psi***

223.7HP 01 Camry Automatic 9psi***

Here is their announcement:
Hey guys, thank you for all your support, RIPP has done it again, the Toyota 5SFE powered Camry has been DYNOd... 191whp with 197lbs/ft of torque at 10psi, a nice jump from 102 stock HP. We will be making the system available shortly

you wont get 250HP on the wheel with 9psi unless you add NOS onto it, but i bet your engine wont last more then 3 pull.

the rippmod kit goes from $3400 +installation
They noted more than 8psi will need cooler, i dont know how much is it gonna cost ($400~$1000?). As you raise the boost, their black box will no longer works for you, so you need some computer that can control fuel and timing ($400-$1000). After you get computer, you need install and get it dyno tune ($400-$1200). on top of that you might want to add something like nice gauges and timer. At this point, you are spending as much money as i do. However, the benefit for the supercharger is that you dnot have to worry about thermal problem which is a common problem turbo has to worry about. The higher heat you have the more potential to blow the motor.

btw, my turbo set up is good for up to 14psi, but i highly doubt my engine will hold up to that high. I need reliable daily driven car not a monster.

Also, the manual transmission are identical to n/a mr2, i think i seen people boost it with the transmission up to 17psi no problem.

Actually i think 5sfe and 1mzfe are using same transmission? just different bolt patern on the flywheel. correct me if i am wrong

Nah man sorry to bust your bubble but the boost cooler is included all you need is a different pulley to get higher psi. And yeah they do have a black box (ECM piggyback) set with the best fuel/air & timing mix to run safe power at 5 or 9psi. (Programmed specifically). So yeah I did my homework.
I disagree with the 9 psi and getting the same power out of turbo and a supper charger that someone commented on earlier. There are other factors that are driven into it i.e. injectors/timing//Fpump/cooler... ect...

BTW this can be installed yourself. Easy Instructions. :D

If the 3400 dollars kit come with intercooler and self-learning tunning computer(5-9psi?) then it is a really good deal, supposely the BEST DEAL out of the world! I am not familiar with the supercharge kit price and package, so i cannot argue at this point. but from what i see in their "this what you will get" picture, i dont see any cooler in there and i have not known any blackbox is able to self adjust whole fuel map and timing accoding to different boost or perofrmance set up.

but some of their given parts are inferior to what i used, thats why i can gain 185hp at 7psi while they only get 190 at 10psi.

But one thing is that turbo does spool faster then supercharger because one is air driven and other is belt driven. rippmod charger basically is a belt driven turbo. keep in mind that tension and friction are always exist.

maybe until feb 05 your boosted solara will prove me wrong

 It's ok ultraslow I understand why you don't know about it cause you got a turbo app and have not invested in any other application. (Which I have) You took a risk and did a custom job (Spent allot of $$ & took a long time) while someone else has already done that risk for me and brought the best products to the table to run safe, no lag, and power throughout the power band. - 6krpm Frankly I don't even care if a turbo set-up will give more power.
To clarify > (When I say set black box application I mean it comes preprogrammed for your set up 5 -9 psi or higher. You would need to have Ripp reprogram it or get your own piggyback system that you can tune yourself.)

I'll post results when I get them. Until then...boost-on homeboy! & Congrats again on your success :D

PS> I asked you about the grounding kit so I assume you're not going to make them?

Peace!

well, in the end a turbo will have more gains than the S/C (since a single turbo is high end power and S/C is over all power).

The biggest question lies in how many lbs of boost you can run before killing a piston x_X that's the last thing you want to happen (of course, you know)

Congrats! =] Were you AUTO or 5-Speed? I know Toyota Auto Trans are good, but they can only handle so much power (I think you're safe as is right now) but the manual can handle a lot more power w/o problems (in comment to Solaradude's advise to swap to a v6 tranny lol)

The 2AZ tranny (E350 and U241E) are rated as "performance transmissions" in the Toyota Instructions System... so this should be interesting =]
1GR-FE ftw!

I'm 99% sure the V-6 has a different manual transmission than the I-4 to handle the higher torque.
