on my 99 v6, its happened twice already, my check engine light comes on the day after i get gas. there's nothing wrong with the car or engine, so i bought a new gas cap, thinking it was the gas cap screwing up the comp, but it still came on...its come on the day after i get gas and then lasts for 2-3 days and just goes away? what do you guys think?
i don't know what i'm doing, i just make it up as i go

Did you go back with a Toyota gas cap or an aftermarket? My mom had the same problem in her Camry, along with a lingering gas smell and turns out, the cap was replaced somewhere along the line with a Walmart cheapo...Only advice I can offer, so I hope this helps...

you need to scan for the trouble code, because there are million of factors might trigger the light.

It might be crappy gas if it's right after you get gas. THat happened to me a few times. There was water in the gas. I just had to buy a bottl eof dry gas and that fixed it right up.

yeah, you need to go to either a dealer of a gas station with an OBD-II reader. Costs about $75 to have it read, and takes about an hour....

you can just buy the OBDII scanner for about 60-200 dollars. do it by yourself take only 2 minutes to read the code and shut the light off

AutoZone was advertising on the radio they would pull the CE codes for you for free, at least in the Chicago area.

yeah, i've the the CE light on twice and autozone read the codes for free for me both times (NC area)

one was the EGR valve, other was a blown O2 sensor
