Reverse Gauges

lol crazy glue??? ever hear of DOUBLE SIDED TAPE???

i hope you plan on buying a new relay when it goes out instead of replacing the indiglo's...

okay you dont HAVE to solder but its recommended to get the best connection and current flow possible. (ask any electrician.)

as for having to remove a bulb to remove the gauges, you dont have to either, you can also drill a hole thru the top of them to route them thru there (the white backing of the cluster) its fairly simple. or if your lazy take a pair of pliers and break a peice of plastic loose (seen it done on civics for quick installs :drinking: ) other than that, just follow basic instructions and make sure you TEST FIT BEFORE acutally gluing/taping them down. you wil regret trying to take them off later.

as for the bulbs ugly green (or orange for you solaraguys) just change the bulb covers or get a sharpie and go crazy. i think walmart or at least your local autostore carries them. think of them as mini condoms for you "little" people  :o

uh yeah... crazy glue used only in the edges that are NOT visible, so if i ever had to replace them, and these edges get messed up, they would NEVER show... double sided tape? hmmm.. too thick i thought, but i guess that's just another option

i hope you plan on buying a new relay when it goes out instead of replacing the indiglo's...

nope... they work great, they have been for yrs, no problems and if i decided on replacing them for better ones, u wont even know crazy glue was used... i never said i glued the entire thing did i... just the clear edges that are covered by the bezel anyway :drinking: cheers!

Gauge install

Postby red2002solara » Thu Jun 17, 2004 7:06 am

I talked to a guy who has an aftermarket shop here in Phoenix. He did my tint job on my Solara as well as installed my sidebars for my Escape. He has had plenty of experience installing glow gauges, and offered to install my gauges dirt cheap since I've been given him quite a bit of business. He alreaady went over the steps he will take in installing my gauges. This Saturday I will be dropping my car off first thing in the morning for him to work on. I appreciated all your guys' support in advising me on installing my gauges. Once I get the job done I'll post some pics up for you guys to see.

They sell those bulb covers in diff colors? Where where where!?!? Id much rather swap those out than pull the bulbs and spend hours doing arts and crafts.

194 are usually used for side blinkers, but its the same bulb as our clusters are backlit with.

194's come in red, blue, amber, and clear at pepboys/autozone. (FYI, blue bulbs looks kind of green-blue). its about 3 bucks for a pair.

Theres LED ones too, but they dont work good as backlight, since LEDs' beams are directional.

Check http://autolumination.com/194.htm for more choices. Non-LED Bulbs here come in red, amber, green, blue, purple, and clear. (Bottom of page), its a buck a bulb here, but you get hit with shipping.

SO if you install these gauges then do the factory lights still light up??? the new gauges completly take over the lighting and leave the old bulbs... so wouldn't u want to take the old bulbs out if they arn't being seen?

If you take out the bulbs from the cluster you will lose your needle and odometer illumination.

Yes of course. The light from the bulbs won't be visible from under the new gauges.

Hey 1mex and all, I got the job done. It was quite easy and yes, I could do it in probably 45 min now. Matter of fact: Red2002, I can help you out with yours if you want, just pm me and let me know, I'm in Chandler, AZ.
Also, I wired it to my "panel" fuse. It doesn't go on all the time, but most to the time i turn on my lights, I exposed the off/on switch so that I have control of whether I want them on or off manually. I did this beacuase near sunset I wanted to run my lights, but the gauges didn't look good lit up at this time, so I could turn them off.

1mex- the place I bought them from asked me for the link to the dyi. I didn't give it to them, but if you get in touch with me, I could see if I could set you up with them in case you want to sell the instructions. ;)

Here they are..and yes, the "RAKE" part is annoying, but I'll get over it.

Question - If you tap the indiglos into the power that delivers juice to the stock gauge cluster backlights, can you get dimming control of the new gauges?

It comes with dimming control anyways...on the same switch device that lets you change from green to blue. Set it to how you like it before you finish closing it back up.

man i dont think it'd be fair to "sell" any instructions, so if they want the link they can have them. If you noticed, it's not really hard at all, and as many other people here have stated, there are many other ways of doing it. However, if they are going to "use" that link to charge people OUTRAGEOUS amounts, then let them figure it out on their own. I posted that a few yrs ago to help others because back then, no one was really helpfull (i hadn't found this forum either) and I didnt want others to go thru the same. Glad it helped you. :drinking: Cheers

I have no dimming control on the gauges, they were the ones that were 7bucks or so and they don't have that control.
