Yep, this mod is the best us Gen 2 V6 owners can do for now until we finally get someone to produce an AM intake pipe for us. I really hope one gets on the market before the end of the year.

Your opinion is certainly in the minority. The overwhelming consensus here is that there is a significant decrease in throttle lag with this mod, not to mention a slight increase in fuel economy.
I'd be willing to put my money where my mouth is as I wager I could tell the difference in performance in a blind trial. Any takers?

1LOKEDOUTSLE & PoshPizzie: I don't doubt either of you when you say you don't feel any improvement. I have to admit this is basically subjective. It's kind of difficult to describe exactly what improvement I've noticed except to say I have signifcantly less throttle lag especially at low- and mid-RPM's after the mod, but there is still some lag, probably from the ECU software problem that Toyota finally 'fessed up to. My gas mileage is up about 1 to 2 mpg's. I can gauge this very accurately because I drive the exact same route to work 5 days/week.

Actually this whole mod idea is kind of sad because I feel like I'm grasping at straws here, but at least I'm trying. We basically have nothing for the Gen 2 yet, no intake pipe, no supercharger, no performance ECU, etc., so whether this mod works or not at least it made me FEEL like I'm doing something positive performance-wise (maybe). :-?

Hey, doesn't Posh have the ingen proto intake? could that be the diconnect here? Can't we all just get along?

Doc, I wouldn't be surprised if you tagged a major part of the ECU problem. Maybe the reflash (if it's ever released) will open that sucker sooner. Either way, thanks for the effort. You can't argue with the logic. Air + gas = power. No air, no power. (and rich = waste)

No, its June's drop-top with the the injen intake.

After the replacing the stock air filter with K&N performance air filter. Acoustic dampener is also removed (with a flathead screwdriver):

What are the benefits of removing the acoustic dampener?

Less disruption to the air flow. It seemed like a secondary air filter. DocJohn said it wasn't a secondary air filter though, but rather an "acoustic dampener," designed to reduce the intake noise.
