-open your glove box
-you will see a little hinge on the right with a screw in it
-unscrew it and take apart the hinge
-then press both sides of the glove department on the black plastic inward
-that will release the glove department and just lay it on the floor
-then if look you will see a white box, move out the wires from it while trying to pull it out.
-then take the filter out and replace with the new
-after that follow the arrow on the box to make sure it is going inside upright.
-after that just attach the glove box and screw the hinge back together
-and thats it

hopefully this may help, i will take pictures when i have a chance.

How often does this need to be done?

for me i'd do it ever 10,000 miles or so maybe? not sure the recommendation but mine was filthy!

I dont think gen 1 has one.

The Gen 2 crowd has come to the realization that Toyo is raping us for the filters and that it's easier, cheaper, and probably better to just chop up a 3M home filter to size.

As far as frequency, I'm doing mine by season. I change it in the fall after the dusty summer and before getting into the winter season where I'm running in a closed up car. If you use your A/C alot then I'd do it in the Spring instead. poor air flow causes bad a/c.

When I want to clean out the air in my cabin I push the little button on the left side of the dash that says "Open"

Remind me to teach you about a thing we have here in Chicago... it's called "Winter". It's kind of like when it gets down to 50 in CA... 'cept different.

i still have a smile when i listen to the first track where someone u made it say - Solaraaaaaaaaa

even though i changed mine the day i wrote this DIY mine still smells every once in a while but i still dont know what it is but what Down2thec said about changing during seasons wise might be a good idea.

i was checking my cabin air filter to see how dirty it was and when i put it back together, the glove compartment door now drops like a rock when i open it??

before it had something that lowered the glove compartment door slowly...

can someone tell me what i did wrong?

You probably had something stuck in there, mine has dropped like a rock since day one

Make sure you re-attached the strut on the right side. One screw. If that's on then you're back to OEM.

Did you piss anybody off recently? They could have stuck a dead fish or an open can of tuna under your seat. Other popular suggestions is that you eat in your car and leave the bags in too long, you/others fart a lot, and you drive with the vent open by the cow farms. Whichever applies to you most is probably the culprit. .
