Wood Trim Modification

Wood Trim Modification

Postby Zedster » Sun May 10, 2009 4:10 pm

Hi Guys,

I made this modificaiton because I really dislike the wood trim on my car. I didn't want to make a big change like paining it, so I covered it with a vinyl sticker. I bought a silver vinyl sticker from this place:

http://stores.shop.ebay.com/MetroSeller ... QQ_armrsZ1

Their shipping was pretty fast and I bought the carbon fiber vinyl sheets too, and those look pretty great as well.

I think it looks pretty good (even though there are some spots I should go back and touch up), and the vinyl is also soft enough to fit the curves on the car. Any comments or ideas please let me know!

Looks pretty nice. How did you go about sizing and applying the vinyl?

For the 2 A/C areas, I actually removed the panels and applied it while sitting in my house. For the door panels, I actually just applied it directly over, then trimmed it off. (Couldn't figure out how to remove the wood door panel areas...) I I didn't do a very good job of trimming it off (Didn't go bother to find a sharper knife) so if you look carefully, the edges are jagged. I should also go and pop some air bubbles when I have the time too. I like the overall look though, and I can always change colors and re-apply it.

This looks really good. How do you guys think a carbon fiber film would look covering the wood trim on the dark grey interior??

I'm actually going to install the carbon fiber vinyl in place soon, this current silver one is cracked due to the sun, in the corner. I haven't decided on what color yet though, but I'll try to upload after completed! :D

I always wondered why they install wood inside of cars? You would think by now they would have evolved into something better.

That looks amazing. I have a red Solara and tan interior, what color should I use over the wood trim?

I covered mine in the carbon fiber material a couple of years ago and it still looks great. I hated that fake ass wood plastic. It started to crack from all this Texas sun and heat. I have the dark blue and grey interior gen1.
