Hi Gang,

I just picked up my new, to me, 2000 Toyota Solara SE. I am loving it so far but the vehicle comes with an alarm issue.

Essentially the alarm goes off whenever I enter the vehicle. It does not matter if I arm it, or lock it with the remote, it goes off no matter what I do. I tried disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and still the problem persists.

I am not sure what exact alarm system this is, but I assume that it is stock. The alarm's pattern uses the horn, and its tones follow "short short short long short" It goes for about 30-60 seconds like this.

So - 2 questions. 1 is this something that can be easily disconnected. I can get by without the alarm. 2 is this a common issue with the 2000 Solaras? Can my dealership assist me?

Thanks!
AA

Fortunately i don't get the same pleasure out of burning newbs. So I pass along the most helpful information for any member of this site. It's always in your best interest to search the posts for any information related to your question. Try something like "alarm problems" or any words meaning the same thing.
In addition I'd go ahead and call the dealership, since you just got the car from them they'll prolly go the extra mile to cover costs and replace parts to establish you as a customer.
Other than that i wish you good luck and hopefully someone else will post a helpful reply.
Peace

Yes sir I did search first. I didnt have a whole lot of luck. I understand your point though, as a forum Moderator at several large Web sites. I will construct some better search phrases. But that said, I did search first. Scouts honor.

I don't know if this would mess with the immobilizer or other security features, but I was tightening my brake cables last week and noticed the alarm module under where the rear cupholders are (tiny little thing; 3" X 3 1/2").

If you want to get to it, PM me for a scanned image from the Hayne's manual of how to remove the center console to access it; but since the directions are sorta generalized to also suit the ES 300, Camry and Avalon, I'll clarify it too.

if your remote has a Toyota logo on it (the sombrero looking "T") then you have a genuine Toyota factory-fukked up alarm. go to the dealership and fix it.

otherwise, by you "chirp chirp, CHIIIRRRRRP" example, it sounds like an aftermarket alarm.

check the remotes for a brand name
