Max Psi is the max a tire is designed to take, not what you should inflate to.
I've aksed this before, and I think the consensus was to add 2-3PSI for each plus size.
i.e. For stock 15s, its 29PSI, for stock 16s, its 32psi, for 17s, 34-35psi, and for 18s, 36-38psi. These are all cold inflation temperatures.
Just make sure NOT to exceed the max on the side of the tire, but I dont think any tire has a max PSI number that low anyways.
From memory:
Too little pressure = more contact patch, better dry traction, worse MPG, and for low profile tires, more risk of rim damage.
Too much pressure = less contact patch = worse dry traction, better MPG.
Too much or too little can lower your wet and snow traction, depending on the shape of the treads. Too much or too little will also increase the risk of tire blowout (Need to be around 30% over/under to be significantly higher risk).
