EGR Code but EGR Valve working correctly?

EGR Code but EGR Valve working correctly?

Postby SolaraT » Sat Feb 14, 2004 9:06 pm

Last night I took my car for brake pads & rotor resurface @ Toyota and asked them to check out what was up with the check engine light. They came back and said that it was giving them an EGR code. They checked the EGR valve and said it was working correctly. They cleared the code and asked that if the light comes back on to take it back and leave it with them overnight to test @ cold start. Of coarse 10 minutes later the light came back on while driving on the highway back home.

Should I take it back since there is no real problem? My thoughts are Bad sensor corosion/conection thinking there is something wrong with the EGR so it sends an error code? Sorry I did not ask for the code. Anyway I can clean the connections?

Info: 47K, great with tune-ups and maintenance.

dring it back to them, tell them its back on and remind them you're a good customer. sounds like they didn't take much time diagnosing it. grabbing the code takes 10 mins, and determining the EGR still works takes an additional 30secs since the scantool can control it.

Had the same thing happen. I finally replaced the EGR valve and that fixed it. The old valve looked fine and tested good. You may want to change it yourself. The dealer quotes 21/2 hrs labor. It should only take you about 30 mins.

it could be a hose thats hooked up to the EGR under the hood... like a pinched hose coming to/from the SC... check that first

ok so out of all the sensors on the intake manifold which one is it? I got a 5s-fe so any help would be apreciated. I just checked and there are at least 4 different sensor type things in that area. I'm going to take a good pic an maybee someone can point it out for me?
There is like two round sauser type things, one plug w/hose connected to it on the top right by the firewall, and on the back of the manifold is a bolt type sensor w/hose, kind of like the one bolted into the exaust and exaust headers.

Thanks,
Louis
