Leather seat repair

Postby SiegSolara » Mon Jul 18, 2005 5:29 pm

Hey all,

The leather seats seem to have two layers, the shiny top layer, and a tougher bottom layer that the top layer sticks to.

Anyway, a tiny portion (about the size of a pinky's fingernail, smaller even) of the top layer has peeled back. One side of the peel is still stuck to the seat. The bottom layer of the seat is still intact. Its such small damage that I really don't want to pay $200 to have the entire panel replaced.

I suppose its possible to glue it down, but am not sure what I should use. I'm thinking of using contact cement because it dries softer than most glues.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I have just about the same problem, on the top of my steering wheel, the leather has began to fade away into this rough patch. I tried to use leather cleaner and conditioner, but it just makes it soft for a while and then becomes rough again. Does anyone know how to fix this?

PS...this all began when i took my car in to get its first inspection and the guys there left oil all over the car (from their dirty hands) and i asked them to take it off, and i think they used something and it tore the first layer of leather off..

I have the same problem on my steering wheel too. It looks like the finish was taken off :( If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know :)

The problem Im having with the seats is different. A layer of the seat is actually being peeled back, the layer is about as thick as two/three sheets of paper. Even tho it is peeled back, there is no hole in the seat. Rather, there is another layer revealed by the peel. It is very plausable that the peeled layer could be re-glued to the bottom layer.

I'm kind of curious about this product:

Has anyone ever tried it? My steering wheel has similar problems to those already listed.
