AC Recharge Qs with SC in the way

AC Recharge Qs with SC in the way

Postby Poman » Wed Jul 14, 2004 6:40 am

My air coming out of my 99 Solara does not feel as cold as it should be. I'm trying to get the R134a recharge kit but the low side port is right under the SC pulley and belt and the big r134a quick snap connector does not go in the lowside port at all. I'm just wondering if anyone has done the AC recharge by yourself with the SC in the way and how did you do it. I'm looking for places to get a low profile coupler. TIA!

AC

My Dad and I were able to refill the R134 with the SC still on. It wasn't easy though. We were able to move the AC line in order to get the hose fitting on. Be careful not to move it too much otherwise it may crack. I believe we moved the line down under the pulley.

It may be safer just to remove the SC or maybe even the pulley.

Good luck

Since recharging requires you to have the car running with the AC on Max to make sure the AC compressor is on. So it's not possible to run anything if the SC is removed. Maybe I can try to move the line a little bit to get enough clearance to do it. Thanks for the advice!

I don't remember running the car while recharging the AC. I could be wrong since my memory isn't that great anymore.

Good luck

yep, the car MUST be running with the AC on full blast in the coldest position. just buy the kit with the can and hose already assembled. it's a little bit cheaper, it comes with less refrigerant, but it'll get the job done. you just have to hold the nozzle out of the way when you're charging the system.
