Removing, Cleaning & Sealing headlights . . .

Postby TRD_solaRa » Mon Jul 12, 2004 5:51 pm

Alright, I did a search on removing the headlights, but couldn't get very much specifics on this. There is a leak somewhere on my driver's side headlight, so I need to remove it, clean it and then seal it somehow. Does anyone know how to open up the headlight assembly and clean the "film/scum" that is adhering to my headlights??? Any input would be helpful, as the rain is still pouring down here in Hawaii. Thanks.

Well I'm having the same problem but i read off this other site that you had to:
1] Place headlight into an oven at 300 degree for 5 minutes(maybe less so keep watch)
2]Remove and set out for about 3 minutes to cool off a bit
3]With a flathead or anything, pull the two pieces apart (will be hot!!)
4]Clean what is needed inside (advoid finger or any kind of oil left on it)
5]Push the two pieces back together and apply glue to seal any open spot
6]Done
Now this told to me and been said to work, But I dont like the idea of haveing to go this much just for that. If there is any other way I would like to know too. Other then that, i think this is the easiest other then spraying high pressure water in it and hope all the water evaporate (which did work on older model car, but the newer model are harder to dry out in the sun.)

Hahah are you talking abuot the inside? I use to have a bee nest inside my light (cuz i pulled it from a junk yard) so i started to get piss off and did the cotton thing too..didnt work so I pulled out the car wash pressure hose and just shot into that headlight inside though that hole..then letted it dried in the sun..worked haha

I'm havin a related problem.. I attached a picture of my headlight. You're looking at the passenger side. (driver side looks the same) All that water you see is inside the lens.

This only became a problem after driving through water at depths I doubt toyota would recommend.. Had to be at around 12" deep by the time i came to my senses, turned around and found a less flooded onramp.
