here is what it says

Jim @ Foreign Affairs wrote:The EBC is there to stop boost in 1st gear on AT cars, and between shifts. Naturally this was extra added insurance for Toyota since they are concerned about transmission warranty. But no boost in 1st and between shifts really hurts performance, as if just having a AT isn't bad enough. So there are things you can do to help out your AT and get rid of the EBC. I recommend Redline ATF, and a AT cooler, I use a Permacool all aluminum cooler. Heat is the enemy of your AT and these two items make a world of difference. When the AT gets hot shifts get mushy due to slipping and slipping is what distroys the tranny. I installed my S/C when my car had less than 100 miles, it now has about 25k miles and the motor produces well over 100 hp more than stock. The transmission works perfectly. I don't often run my car super hard, just on occassion, when I have to blow off a 350Z or Mustang GT, or have to do a quick across town parts run, so I am not what I would call hard on the transmission anyway, but Toyota does build a very good automatic, so I'm not too concerned. So I guess that answers your question regarding if I would remove the EBC! But I would also install a cooler and synthetic ATF.

HKS tried adding 70 hp to a V6 Accord automatic and blew up the tranny within a week. Now Comptech sells a SC for the V6 Accord that only adds a lame 45 hp because Honda ATs are junk. Be glad you have a Toyota.

Jim @ foreignaffairs is very true. Honda's AT had some serious problems, while Toyota kept it under control.

Honda always had probs with their a/t trannys on v6's. Not trying to stir up stuff...but i have a few acquaintances who had their honda van tranny shoot before reaching 100K miles. I myself had prob's with my ES tranny..but all was fixed for 1200 and it shifits SMOOTHLY now.

How so? I remember reading the bulletins a year or 2 ago on the 97-02 Accord ATs. New Gen 03~ have corrected this issue. The problem was something like ATF pressure would drop or the metal was of poor quality in the AT components (some issue) and the gears would just grind shut and put the car to a halt. Many accidents occurred and people got very upset, some sued.

A transmission is only as good as the person who maintains it.
