what are the things you should have inspected when buying a used car. so far ive got

1. engine and tranny (but i dont kno the exact details of what to look at )
2. electrical/radio/lights
3. a/c
4. sound system
5. brakes and brake lines
6. power steering
7. tires
8. sunroof
9. condition of leather
10. condition of paint and exterior

what else, i kno theres gotta be more

take it to a reputable mechanic, and tell him you're looking to buy the car, and he should check it out good for you.

anyone who's selling a car should let you.

the first guy i was gonna buy from let us do it, found out he had abused the hell out of the transmission and it was at the end of it's life, so we saved ourselves a crap load of money.

second was from the dealership, they gave me 3 days 300 miles to get it inspected.

check out the underbody.

check the fluids.

compression test.

dont blind buy on this, have a mech or some one of high knowledge on cars look into this.

check up for TSB's on the car as well.

records of any sort is a plus too.

Hari: Take to one of those places that does the used car testing for under 100 bucks. Look local for extended warranties, and they will have shops for testing used cars. Its free if your buying extended warranty, and costs mulla if your not! They do what you all described above. Just make sure the seller and you agree on a BALLPARK value subject to this testing. Mainly, tell him/her that your paying for the testing, and if all's good, then its a buy, if not..then we'll renegotiate.

Also look for signs of body work/repairs. Look at panel alignment and for paint overspray, which usually is found on the trim pieces. You could also run a vehicle history report at carfax.com.

In the engine, look for dirt deposits. Generally dirt will cling where there was a fluid leak of some sort, either an overfill/spill or a straight up leak. When I got mine I noticed a little oil leak and got the price down as a result....just something easy to look for!

Yeah...but when i sold my celica, i had the engine steam cleaned. Looked VERY new for being 157K miles. so there are ways around that.

yeah, but it's worth it just incase people didnt invest in the steam cleaning
