Big brakes are on

Big brakes are on

Postby UfoZ8myCow » Mon Jul 26, 2004 12:23 pm

Here are my new, improved brakes. My car desperately needed something to fill the huge gap left by my 18" wheels and miniscule stock brakes. The larger V6 calipers should also help my car stop a little shorter than with the dinky stock calipers.

The rundown:
13.1" Drilled/slotted MKIV Supra TT rotors
V6 Camry calipers
Custom caliper brackets/hardware
Hawk HPS Ferrea Carbon brake pads

Unfortunately, and you will all agree that I am retarded, I accidentally deleted all of the pictures that I took during the install during a blond moment I was having. I'll probably paint the calipers at some point, so when I take the wheels off, I'll get in there with the camera so you can see the brackets and everything up close. When I get the time and money, I'll upgrade to stainless steel braided brake lines and do my rear V6 disc conversion.

That is all for now.

UfoZ8myCow,

Well done job, it's look great.

How much did it cost you to do all that? (if you don't mind telling)?

Thanks.

I start to dislike my small azz stock size as well.

i got most everything from a friend of mine with a camry... he had the brackets made. the rotors... i would suggest hitting up eBay... the calipers can be had from a junkyard for probably 100 bucks... the pads were 75 bucks at pep boys. the grand total was a little under 500... much better than $2500 or whatever they charge for a big brake kit. all that is missing now is just the stainless steel braided brake lines, but they are on order.

i disagree. doing a big brake upgrade totally different than changing the rotors.

its the rotor, bigger caliper, brake lines all included on the kit.
its the caliper that is the expensive part. most upgrades are 4pot, where as the camry is a single pot.

sure you have the look of a bigger brake, but it's nothing compared to a true big brake upgrade.

what you did looks nice though.

I have an I4... V6 calipers are actually quite a bit bigger than my original ones. Also, larger rotors actually will aid in stopping power. Think of it this way: If you have an old record player, play it, and then use your finger to try and slow down the rotation of it. Youll find that it's much easier to stop it closer to the outside of the disc rather than closer to the middle. Same principle here. I have a friend in a machine shop that is going to make some brackets to adapt Endless 6 pot Supra calipers onto my car at some point. Then, with the added pistons, stopping power should be increased even more.

I think he was just making a point that its a cheap upgrade but you can't compare it to the full big brake kit, because its so much more involved.

All you get in a big brake kit is a set of bigger calipers, bigger rotors, and SS brake lines... All of which have been upgraded to a bigger size on my car too, right? Unless by "more involved" what you really mean is "more expensive"...

think of it as a pre-big brake upgrade.

you have the general points done. bigger everything. but it just something I dont call a true big brake upgrade.

i'd call that one a kindergarden stage :)
