Just test drove SLE V6!!!

I'm so excited!!! I finally got to test drive the Solara. At first I went into the SE Sport V6.. wasn't too crazy about it. Plus I noticed the A/C wasn't too strong. THEN I test drove the SLE... what a difference!!! i loved it. I really ended up liking the ARCTIC FROST PEARL!!! WOW!!! The MSRP was $28,442 but after bargaining with them (they almost fell over dead when I whipped out my researched figures) they quoted me at $25,666. I didn't buy it, I am still going to check around to see if I can do even better. :) The only thing that worried me about this car is the fact that when I tried backing it up in order to park it right in front of another car on the lot, i could NOT, for the life of me, see out the BACK. :( i know i'll end up dinging up the back. sigh. But overall i loved it. very smooth ride, very LUXORIOUS, like a LEXUS. :)

That is a good buy...

That's cheaper than the sticker on my 01 SEV6 that came with the car... I think the final sticker bottom line was close to 27K... Don't know if that's what the guy paid...

That price 25,666...that's not bad at all for V6 SLE. Nice choice of color...CHEEZE. Well, good luck with your search. What are your other options as far as makes and models?

I don't really have any other car models that I am interested in... originally i thought about the Camry, Accord coupe, and the Altima. Really love the Solara. The only thing that freaked me out was not being able to see out the back and that I had difficulty backing up and telling how far I was from another car behind me. Other than that, I loved it. I am just waiting for the dealership to come back at me with a lower quote. i really think i can get them close to invoice ($24,975) if not lower (though they swore up and down that they will not touch their holdback...). there are a TON of dealerships in this area (NYC metro) so you never know... but i DO want the arctic frost color, even if it's a bit more expensive than the other colors. hopefully the car will still be at that particular dealership that i went to by the end of the month. :)

Good luck & welcome!

You do get more used to the limited rear visibility however it still causes me (after 2 1/2 months) to park further away...or maybe thats my fear of door dings, LOL.

Seriously the only time it is an issue for me is backing out of parking spaces and my sister's driveway.

I have a solution for the backing up hard to see problem. It also worked on my Gen1 Solara. You back up until you no longer see the hood of the car in back of you and you just see the bottom of the windshield. This places you a safe distance away from almost all cars except those with very long hoods. I've used this technique many times with both my Solaras while doing parallel parking in the city. It's simple and works great.

technique has faults...

Postby mcgervey » Wed Aug 04, 2004 10:37 am

as noted, depends on numerous factors, one being the length of the other car's hood, the other being your seat placement, you personal height, etc.

For small money you can always buy a back up sensor kit

Very true. Each person should do their own test and see at what visual point on the car behind them they need to see or stop seeing as they back up. But my technique for me works for almost any car as few cars have very long hoods.
