i want a RED 4 cylinder se sport, the dealer in upstate Ny is pricing them at about 23,500. im gonna trade in my sunfire,

2 of the dealerships iv been to were horrible the cars looked like crap, and the place looked Rundown, i dont know what to do? know one will answear my questions, and i feel like every sales rep i talk to is looking over my head,

Can u get the upgraded sound system in a se-sport?

and does 23k sound kinda high to you for a 4-cylinder?

Also> is it normal to start shopping for cars when u know u cant actually Buy it for another 5 months?

Cot damn! 23.5k for a 4 banger??? Are you in total love with the gen 2?
For that much green you could get a used gen 1 or 1.5 with a V6 and have a sizable bankroll left over to modify it to your pleasing.

$23,500 is too much for a 4-banger. I got the V6 Sport with 75,000 miles extended warranty for $23,500 out the door. Better try another dealership or talk them down. I think someone in here was offered 19,500 for I4, can't remember who. Any know?

got sport has it correct. I am 25 and have purchased numrous cars and my toyota sales rep still looked over my head! the worst part is he is a friend of the fam!!! Anyways, if you really feel uncomfortable use the internet and i trick that i use is to go to a dealership that you have no interest in using at all and learn how to hagle there. If you screw up who cares you aint buying from them anyway

hey jason ill give you some advice on getting the sales persons attention.

I dont know how you dress but try dress up a lil bit not like suit and tie but a pair of khakis and a golf shirt would make yourself look a lil older be serious be friendly and give the sales person a good solid handshake.

Do some research show them that you want this car for more reasons than just you saw 1 on the street and liked the look of it. It also shows them you are serious. ( looks, style, performace, engineering, quality of build)

If you dont have a brocure yet get 1 go in ask the person on the counter for 1 and leave take it home study it. Also use the toyota web site for research.
Check out the web for reviews on the solara ( when the car 1st came out posts were made here with links to hem if you do a search they still might be there)

know what each car goes for sticker and dealer cost. Know what the monthly payments are (ish) use the calculator on the web site to help you.

I think the best thing you can do is arm yourself with information you may be young and on your own but you know what you want, with the info you may find your self more confident in dealing with a sales person and inturn get more respect.

seeing as you have time 5 months ( wich is a good time to buy) just after xmas the toyota dealers around here always have new years clearout events.

If you want to get a lil deeper into this, you can ask around if your in the mall and you see a guy getting into his new toyota ask him about it see if you can get the sales persons name, you might get a "hey ya it was this guy named Bill Smith great guy I have his card" get that guys name and write down the car he has call up bill smith and say you were reffered to by Jack whom he sold a avalon to could you come in and see him about a solara.

When your ready to test drive go when they arnt buzy screw saturdays if you get off early from work or school 1 day visit them, they wont be thinking ok this kid cant afford this car hes just wasting my time i want to go talk to that grey haired guy looking at he 4runner.

Look for a younger sales person or a female they may understand the "age discrimiation thing"

My 1st car I was just comming outa high school the sales person was very good he called me Mr mylastname he understood that i was tight with cash over charged for insurance but wanted the car, we both worked together and got a deal done. he would have sold me the solara but he quit just a month b4 the solara came out.

The guy that sold me my solara knows me by 1st and last name asks about how the car is the milage how my girl friend and I are doing shakes my hand everytime i see him. ( if i go to get an oil change i walk the show room floor just to see if hes in and say hi)

1 thing i would sugest is not to walk away from a sales person if they are being fair try and work threw it dont get up and leave if you are haggling over $500 it can be brought down DO GET UP AND LEAVE if they are being unrealistic.

Hey seeing as your younger and you might be looking for a price cut also consider demos or maybe a car comming off a 1 year lease some people go threw cars like crazy eg a guy we had as a memeber here fotodad had a nissan z350 then he traded it for an 04 solara he just traded the solara in and bought an infiniti g35 DAMMMN.

oh and last thing when you meet the person tell him your sunfire is a peice of crap and 4 wheels, they like to knock on other car makes and when you agree with them your already on their side.

long post but hope it will help ya

well just a couple suggestions from me, don't go sport, the only real advantage I've seen is the upgrade to 17s which in my opinion aren't even as nice as the standard 16s that I got
and my i4 se was $20k  21 with tax though :(

edit: whoopsies forgot the sport includes the body kit

i really like the sport, i think the body kit adds a very aggressive look to it, and i like that the back end alot better with the kit"

Shoe, you Rock dude!
thanks alot man, making ALOT of mental note's

The first time i went in there i had a pair of old Jeans on and a t-shirt,

im deff gonna throw on a nice shirt and a nice pair of pant's.

never thought of it in that aspect.

what are your payments on it?

i think anything over 350a month might be to much,

im kinda nervous, i think i might be getting over my head.

i figure the sunfire will have about 80,000 on it, when im ready to trade it in> i guess it all depends.

this is stressfull.

:-?

Ha 23k? They wanted me to spend that and more on a 4 banger. I said hell no and got a V6 from another local dealer for only a 900 more than they wanted for the 4 banger. Then again I should have said screw this and went to infiniti to get that g35 coupe. Damn!
