First Week Issues/Questions

First Week Issues/Questions

Postby Tx2OO2Ag » Fri Aug 06, 2004 7:10 am

Hello everyone. Last week I purchased my first Toyota and have been pretty impressed overall, but I have a few problems I was looking for help on...

The car is a 2004 SLE V6 convertible with the NAV option.

I have about 300 miles on the car now. I came out of work yesterday and the remote would not unlock the doors. I was thinking no problem, remote battery must have died. When I started the car I noticed the clock was reading 1:00.

I have since discovered that neither remote will unlock the doors and the clock always reads 1:00 when starting.

I, like others, am also having problems with the heated seats. Guess I'm off to the dealer for lunch.

Any ideas?

TIA.

I can not help you with the first set. but the heated seats take a while to warm up. Also they do not seem to work if you have the AC on (I know its weird but I just got mine and was testing it out)

that seems really strange.

I did notice that the passenger seat eventually warms, but the drivers seat has never even slightly responded.

Very odd problems. I don't know why anyone would want to run A/C with heated seats anyway but my heated seats in the wintertime only took a few minutes to heat up. I had no complaints on the time to warmup or the hotness of the heat. Made my winter much nicer.

just to clarify...I was only turning them on as part of testing everything out on the car during the first week.

On a side note, did anyone else have problems activating the 90 day trial of XM. The fleet manager, sales manager, and service manager all thought I was crazy when I told them I would need the offer code from toyata to activate the trial. They did eventually locate it...after 4 days and a conference call I set up between them and Toyota Gulf Coast headquarters.

I was later told I was the first person to buy a convertible, or the XM option from the dealer.

Thanks everyone.

i think we had another guy here how bought it with the understanding that there was a code for the XM, later he/she learnt that you needed to buy an antenna and something else....
Hope your car lives up to your dreams...I see more a more peopel complaining about the heated seats here...I hope its not a major problem down the road!

Thanks Jai. I hope this all gets resolved soon because it really is an awesome car to drive. The NAV system exceeded my expectations.

The car was prewired with the XM components installed. When you call XM to initiate the trial, you need the radio code from the unit and the free trial code from toyota. For some reason, my dealer was never given their free trial code to give to owners. It's all good now. I like the XM and that's all I listen too now. I hope I don't get hooked on it. I don't think I'm ready to pay for radio. By the way...listening to ComedyXM while driving is going to cause a lot of accidents. That is soo funny I almost fell out of the driver seat a couple of times.

The car came with the XM option installed

Xm Satellite Radio Package
-Includes: Receiver
-Antenna
-Wiring Harness
-Activation
-3 Month Subscription
$399.00

If you have this option, you tune to channel 00 to get your radio code, then call XM to activate.

Re: the remote not working, I think I read in the manual that disconnecting the car's battery will require the remotes to be reset. Double-check the owners manual on that. But why would the battery have been disconnected?? Maybe a short somewhere??

As for XM, your car already has the components installed? Was that a Toyota option or a dealer package??

The XM was a toyota option...pre-installed. You can tell which solaras have it by the 2in black box looking antenna attached to the trunk.

My previous post had the official description of the option from the Toyota website. It is on the Options page.

I've had neither of those problems, but I'd say the remote problem may be a serious problem. If it was just the remote, no biggie, it just might need to be reset. But the fact that the clock gets reset every time back to 1:00 might indicate that you have a short circuit somewhere. I'd say take the car to the dealer for a checkup.

BTW, did they tell you that you were the first to buy an XM option or the first to buy a convertible ?

I'm still waiting for a call back from the dealer. They said they'd like to do some research before I brought it in.

I was told that was the first of either that had sold (Sterling McCall Fort Bend in Richmond) Who knows if that was true or just an excuse for having so little info on the car and radio...not to mention the NAV system. The sales guy just sat in the car with me and tried to follow along as I was learning how to work it.
