would it be possible to have custom gears made for the 5 speed tranny, so it had an extra gear? I was just thinking about this... anyone have any ideas?

hmmm come to think of it. i think it can be done.

space should not be the issue since the celica gts had a 6sp trans.

how much more $$$ you plan to drop down dude?

Im just thinking... I took the tranny apart, and I think that the inside had some room, but the thing is you would have to move the reverse lever and change things around, but it seems possible... I wonder if the Celica Six Speed Bolts up, or if you would need a bell housing convertor.. its possible.. I think it would be awesome to have a Six speed..

IM thinking the only way would be the celica six speed w\ an adapter so it bolts up to the Engine... the housing won't fit an extra gear

what would be the point of adding an extra gear? all the original gears would still have the same ratios, so i guess 6th would give u a higher top speed, but thats about it....or i could be completely wrong....

a really high speed highway cruising gear would actually be quite practical in my opinion, but that could be done by just replacing the 5th gear.

haha. its impossible to just add another gear to the curent 5sp. so the point of having the same ratios just wont be.

Yea no sence on adding one the whole idea od six speed is to have shorter gears. Its kinda like putting a Rear in a RWD makes it quick off the line and mid range. LIke my specv i would shift into 3rd about the same time most 5 speeds shift into second

I think the problem is 2nd is too tall. A problem with just replacing 2nd gear with a shorter gear is that it might put you below the powerband from a 2-3 shift.

I agree i think our best bet is to try and get a celica 6 speed to work. But are those tranny's tough thats one good thing about our tranny they are pretty tough.

and whats the celica 6 speed gear ratio compared to ours

how the hell would the celica gts tranny work? the engine code on the celica and the solara are different. you would have to find a shop and custom everything.
