Electrical weirdness

This evening, we ran down to the beach area. During the ride, the volume on the radio disappeared. It was working fine. So, I turned it off figuring something blew out.

We got in the car a few hours later to head home. Curiousity got the best of me and I tried the radio. Surprise! Full volume!! Great, something reset.

During the ride, I had to make a fast turn to avoid some moron. I felt a drop of water hit my foot while taping the brakes.

After getting home and parking the car, I had gotten out of the car (it's off) and looked down at the center console when I noticed the radio was still on. Started the car and turned it back off. The radio stayed on with no volume.

Any ideas on this one??

Right now, I have no clue. I suspect there is a issue with the A/C. This year alone, I have replace every stupid sensor on the car. About $1900 so far. I was stupid and purchased that dumb Toyota Care Extended Warrantee. Well, that was a big waste of money as it has covered nothing.

If this is just the start of more trouble with this 2000 Solara, it may be time to get rid of it. It has 103k on it and runs good.

hmmm that's messed up. i was going to purchase the warranty too; it's a good thing i didn't because i notice weird little electronic qwerks in my car too. my AC control light sometimes doesn't come on...

I had the extended warranty when I bought the car. Since about 95k miles, it has need just about every sensor on it. Everytime I turned around, the stupid check engine light was on.

The warranty covered none of it.

Unfortunately, this little fact has changed my opinion of Toyota itself. It appears to be just another scam.....


In other news, I'm looking to replace the grill in my 2000 Solara. The stupid thing start peeling about 2 months after I got it. The dealer refused to anything about it.... Well, time to get rid of it. I'd like to find something that fits just like the OEM grill, but a little different. Comments?

Okay, two separate and (I hope) unrelated things here-

I also had that problem with the weird water-dripping-on-foot-near-the-brake thing, and I'm not sure if it only happened at one time or another. I don't remember specific instances too well, though. Is this a danger? Or something normal? all I know, I drive with sandals a lot, and that is some disconcerting stuff right there...

Second- I was in North Carolina, it was hot as heck, I turned off the car. A couple of hours later on, turned the car back on, noticed the LED for the dash clock was out. Thought, "okay, maybe it burned out", (though I don't know if that's possible). A few weeks later, I noticed my power-adjust for the side mirrors doesn't work.

Are those two dash-things related? If so, is it maybe a fuse problem? Can I fix it on the cheap? (college student).

Seems like quite a coincidence that you are both getting occational water dripping out and having electrical problems. Is this condensation from the A/C unit or is it anti-freeze? If condensation, maybe your condensor drain tube is plugged up causing a build up of water. Is it musty inside your car?

Okay, general consensus among my more car-knowledgeable buddies is that the condensor drain is clogged- we'll take care of that.

Do any of you know enough about the fuse layouts in the '00 Solara to tell me if the LED and the sideview mirror adjustor are on the same circuit? And, which fuse that is? I tried to figure it out from the manual, but the names of the fuses aren't so helpful...

Had same drip problem, but no electrical problem on my 99. A couple times, I heard sloshing under the dash. Turns out that some mold had clogged up the drain tube. A quick blast of air into the drain tube (next to the exhaust resonator or cat...can't recall which) cleared the clog a drained about a liter or so of water.
