boot

boot

Postby pegaus » Thu Aug 01, 2002 8:22 pm

I just purchased my 2002 Solara Convertible. Prior to this I had a 1988 BMW325iC. I understand the need for the boot to protect the top when it is down but it takes up so much room in the car or trunk when not in use. Is there any type of aftermarket fabric boot that will protect the top but be easier to store? 8)

I hope so! I was just thinking about that today. Have you checked with Toyota.com yet?

boot

I just got a reply from Toyota Corp. regarding an alternate boot. At this time there are none available other than the hard boot that comes with it. Darn!
I saw a convertible with the top down in the parking lot last week without the hard boot, and the exposed part was extremely faded and ugly.

I agree - poor design.
Seems like something similar to a car cover would work well. Or maybe a leather cover with velcro connectors. Any entepreneurs out there?
Maybe additional feedback to Toyota Corp. will help also. They are available on-line.

top down cover

Does anybody know of a cover that is used to cover the opening with top down. I've seen them for the exotics but not for the solara.

You can blame the poor design on ASC Manufacturing, not Toyota.

my guess is that Toyota would still have to approve the design from asc. Therefore if it's got Toyotas name it's Toyotas problem. I just can't defend poor design on a 30,000 auto.

Well considering the Solara was meant to only be a coupe, it was a mistake for Toyota to even make a convertible out of it. The proof is in the poor sales.

Flipside I don't know where your getting your information, but here in the
NE convertibles are flying off the showroom floors as fast as they come in.
The allocations are limited. Toyota could increase the production numbers
twofold and still sell out. This is fact not fiction. Still dosen't defend poor boot design! Btw stylewise the convertible is much nicer than the coupe.

I'm getting my info from stats from Toyota sales here in CA. I'm not sure how well the convertible sells in other parts of the nation, but here, they tend to sit at dealership lots for long periods at a time. Yes the allocations are limited in other areas, but the allocations here in CA are more so than in other regions. This is a fact...not fiction!
