I am looking into that shifter from twm performance.. and I wanted to know who all had shifted into the wrong gear w\ a short shifter.. because the TWM one is at most 60% less throw.. and im worried..

it rarely happens in a 5sp.. however i've done a 5th into 2nd when i was a greenhorn on the manual trans. as long as your left foot can act fast, then you should not have nothing big to worry about.

it happens more often on 6sp trans where a 6th- 5th turns into 6th-3rd because of the close gears.

happend to a few celica guys.

I went to the celica board, and saw so many posts about people blowing their motor from it.. I got real scared... because I want to get that short shifter.. but it will make it dramatically shorter... so.. im going to get it, but shift slow for a long time till i know the short shifter like the back of my hand

the reason why celica owners are blowing motors is not because of the short shifter... it's driver error.. they have 6speeds unlike us having 5speeds...

going into 2nd instead of 4th?

its kinda hard once you get the feeling...

from 3rd to 4th just go straight down.

or if you want keep the clutch depressed and make sure you are in 4th by gluiding the gears before letting the clutch in.

I don't think you'll have any problems. You're probably more likely to miss gears upshifting rather than downshifting. Even when I try to get into 2nd from a higher gear, it's difficult when the rpm's are up. I wouldn't stress over this.

probably the biggest problem would be going into 3rd instead of 5th or 1st instead of 3rd.

and I dont see how going into 2nd instead of 4th is possible. You just pull the shifter straight down...

I think 3rd to 4th is the easiest shift, with 4th to 3rd being the most fun (kinda like the GO movement pushing the stick foreward then taking off)

even with TRD short shifter, i would still consider the travel distance is long. i dont think it ever happens to me.

but when i driving my friend's integra, the shifting distance is short and i always have no idea where is the gear.

anyway, you will be fine with TRD short shifter.

Well Im getting myself onto a twm list for one, and its reduced by 60% throw. Kinda scary. how much throw is reduced on the TRD one? cuz i love my solara...also, didnt they stop making trd shorties?
