Alarm/Sceucrity in SLE??

Alarm/Sceucrity in SLE??

Postby sammy » Tue Oct 29, 2002 8:12 am

Just ordered an SLE2003, loaded.
The brochure says this as standard:
Remote keyless entry system with 2-stage locking, alarm, engine immobilizer and remote illuminated entry

The salesman says "there's no audible alarm" and tried to sell me an off brand add-on for 350. or a toyota for 500.

I called Toyota and they told me that there is an alarm, but w/o glass breakage.

Is there anyone out there who can tell me whether this car has an alarm standard and how it works?

thanks

being the SLE model, it should be a standard feature. toyota is probably telling you the truth. there is an alarm, but the problem with factory alarms is that there is no glass breakage sensor, BUT as mentioned earlier in the forum, the RS3200 ? alarm that comes factory installed HAS a glass breakage sensor. you may want to upgrade to that alarm if you don't have it and are concerned about someone breaking the windows.

IMHO, factory alarms usually go bad, most of the time. Gunman explained earlier that the installers kinda just rush the jobs, and are careless. save some money and just spring for an aftermarket alarm.

the one that comes with the car is really basic, you push lock on the remote (or lock the doors) and in 30 seconds the alarm is set. after that if anyone opens the locks manually from the inside the alarm will sound. the engine immobilizer basically won't let the engine start (fuel cut-off i think?) until a key (the toyota key, a copy wont work) has been inserted.
