taking headlights apart

OK i did a search on headlights, and everything comes up, except what i want (unless my blind @$$ missed it). Anyway, I've been reading on how some people have used a blow drier or even placing them on the oven to get the clear part apart. I got a heat gun, but it only seems like the plastic is melting (no i havent damaged anything.. yet) so i want to know if anyone can give me some pointers on how to properly take them apart. I want to clean the inside of them since they are looking like crap. Any help/advise is greatly apprecimiated! lol

baking it should be ok
heat up the oven to 350 to 400F, then turn off oven
stick the whole headlight in for 5 or 6 minues, and use something flat to pry it open, i've done it several time, and works well.

k im not so fond of the oven idea, so i'm not sure if that's what i want to do, but so far using the heat gun is only making the black plastic to stick to the flat head has anybody taken theirs apart without having to bake it?

I am the only one that has taken them apart with out baking it but i got a gen 1.5

mind sharing the secret? do i need to remove any screws or anything like that from the headlights??

I need to take a look at a gen 1 light i am in the process of ordering 1 side first

do the baking thing. it works. I didn't it to my mom's 01 corolla to paint the chrome part black.

i hate baking it lol and it didn't work for my friends evo or bmw headlights

Anyone taken they fog lights apart in a similar fashion? My right one's dirty from recent rainstorms.

check that link out... solarat made a tutorial on how to put the yellow capsules in... he had to take the foglights apart... check it out...
