Exhaust: Crush bends vs. Mandrel bends

Is it a big deal to go with crush bends over mandrel ones? I haven't been able to find an exhaust shop that does mandrel bending. What is everyone's consensus on this? Is it really THAT big a deal?

it really depends on the quality of work you want done to your car. Mandrel bending is a skill that not many shops can accomplish or replicate. So being that it is a skilled job, it'll cost more but you'll get a much better quality job done. Mandrel bending allows for no "crushed/crimped/indented" bends in the piping. Hope this helped some. Shootz.

When you mandrel bend a pipe, you retain the shape of an "O" ( circular shape) through the bend, just like straight pipe. Crush bend creates a "0" (oval shape) through the bend, increasing pressure at that portion of the pipe and reducing flow by about 25%, depending on the severity of the bend.

Unless you got s/c, intake, and all that other jazz that requires mandrel bending, you shouldnt be worried about it that much. If its available, get it. If not, don't sweat it.

Does crush bending effect performance enough to make a noticeable difference? Thanks for the replies!

Couldn't you just buy mandrel bent pieces and take them to a shop to weld?

let's say the pipe has diameter 3" and you did crush band, where the crush part has wrinkle cause the section of pipe is 2.5". so that part will restrict the flow and the result is that you going to have a 3" pipe noise but 2.5" performance. i hope this clear it up
