9 psi on stock compression . . .

Joe, by "first the intake," do you mean just swapping the stock box for an Injen under-hood setup? I'm definitely doing that and--with the link that Rizal provided for buying additional pipe--I really want to mod my own CAI. I'm a tweaker, problem-solver and engineer wannabe from way back, so this seems doable for someone with patience.

I am planning on going to the meet at Great Falls, but I haven't officially signed up yet. I look forward to picking the brains of those more experienced than I!

Steve, the Injen intake is what I was referring to. I don't have any data to back it up but I think the stock setup was restrictive for air intake as well as exhaust. It is better with the K&N filter but there is that sound baffle in the fender that I think restricts the air. It cuts out that hissing noise though when the car starts cold.

Good luck with making the CAI. It is a lot more difficult than it sounds. Danny spent a lot of time working on the initial design and tested and improved it for a year and then got help from UPFD. One of the nice things that UPFD added was a bracket that holds the intake down where the stock airbox was. The problem is, the space to go into the fender is small and with engine movement it causes connection problems and rubbing. -JoeB

Hmmm...after hearing how much trouble guys were having getting the CAIs, I though it might be just as well to try it myself. Thanks for the difficulty warning--I can see how that bracket would make a big difference, too. I guess I'll hold off for a while and see how it goes with them.
